In 1986 i bought my first Labrador, a black dog, from Ronwein Philips, of Sheenaron Labradors. His kennel name was Sheenaron Merry Jolly Roger but i called him Murphy. He was a great dog, absolutely full of fun and i set out to show him, my aim being to qualify and show him at Crufts the following year. Murphy and i had lots of fun on the show circuit and i did indeed qualify him (by gaining a 1st place at a Championship Show) and showed him at Crufts. Of course by then i was completely smitten with Labradors and showing.
In 1989 i was granted my Affix Overijse, which is the name of the commune in Belgium where i grew up.
I then purchased a beautiful yellow bitch from the Rawlinson family of Halshimoor Labradors - Halshimoor User Friendly at Overijse ,Spice. She was a typical Labrador in every sense and i absolutely adored her. She was a prolific winner and we had some great wins together.
I then purchased a yellow bitch from Audrey Swindles of Wilsbury Labradors, Wilsbury Old Faithful at Overijse - Pebble. Pebble really was a mummies girl and the apple of my eye, she was a real beauty and a wonderful Mum and she became my foundation bitch. Pebble won extensively gaining a Reserve Challenge Certificate and her Stud book number which meant she was qualified for Crufts for life.
Pebble came second from a huge class at the Labrador Club Centenary Championship Show at Belvoir Castle in 2003, where the above photos were taken.
I did breed from Pebble and kept and showed some of her offspring. She produced some lovely puppies, very typical Labradors all with her super temperament.Below are some photos of Overijse Labradors.
Although i am probably best known for my yellow labradors, i have kept and bred all three colours.
To me one of the most important characteristics of a Labrador, is its biddable temperament. All our dogs and puppies had wonderful temperaments. We spent a lot of time socialising our puppies particularly with children of all ages, other dogs, getting used to all household noises and traffic, car travel and noisy life.
Due to having a young family and moving with my husbands job firstly in the UK, then to Sweden and now we are in France i currently only have the one Labrador, my home bred black bitch Wilma.
